Instalaciones PLOCAN offers onshore and offshore facilities to promote long-term observation and sustainability of the oceans, providing a cost-effective mix of services. PLOCAN is able to provide multidisciplinary access and logistical support through its onshore installation and two marine test beds (Port of Taliarte and offshore region). These facilities are located on the northeast coast of the island of Gran Canaria, integrating the ocean platform into the offshore test bench. Multipurpose Offshore Platform: The infrastructure, built on a caisson resting on the seabed, consists of the following different levels, each for a different use: HELIPORT: Located above the command center, capable of housing helicopters up to a maximum length of 18 and 6 tons. Currently, under legalization procedures. COMMAND CENTER (86 m2): Elevated on the deck, with 360º vision. All control and operation activities of the platform and the test site are managed from here. BUILDING: Divided into two floors, the housing laboratories (297 m2), classrooms (39 m2), kitchen (64 m2), dining room (80 m2), living room (37 m2), etc. PLATFORM LEVEL: This is a hangar (590 m2) and an open work area (546 m2) where there is an open test tank (6.0 x 7.8 m). It has a telescopic crane to stack containers. The test tank will facilitate sea trials and the launch of specific underwater vehicles and equipment at sea. BASE LEVEL (1,215 m2): Houses the facilities rooms and energy management equipment. The main facilities of the platform are two floating docks of dimensions 3.0 x 6.7 m. in the south corner of the structure, personnel transfer basket (by crane) capable of transporting up to four standing passengers or 2 people plus stretcher (Maximum gross weight: 800kg), telescopic crane with a 17.70 m, Wastewater treatment plant: 2 grey treatment plants (for recycling 3,500 l/d) and sewer water (about 94% reduction in BOD, 93% in SS and 80% in CDO); tanks of 3x11 m3 that obtain seawater from different depths and tanks of 2x16 m3, one with seawater that will undergo a desalination process and pass to the other where fresh water accumulates, desalination system with a capacity of 16 m3 / d, freshwater tank, hand tools and other small equipment, two pallet trucks with a maximum load capacity of 2.5tn. It has a 15MW underwater electrical and communications infrastructure that will allow the connection of marine technologies that carry out tests on the high seas during their demonstration phase. It consists of two cables installed at a depth of 40m of water, located on the test bench, approximately 2km away from the coast. It will be a knot between marine devices and the national network on land. It consists of two medium-voltage submarine hybrid cables (13.2kVac cable for the evacuation of electricity, optical fiber for communications and 400Vdc cable for powering auxiliary equipment). The test bench is supported by the onsa land headquarters, located in Taliarte next to the Port of Taliarte, about 8km from the airport and 20km from the city of Las Palmas GC and the Ports of Las Palmas. The area has meeting rooms, meeting rooms, workshops, operations control rooms, underwater vehicle workshops and calibration tanks for underwater vehicles, laboratories (wet and dry), classrooms, offices and multipurpose rooms.

Información adicional The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) is a public consortium created in 2007 between the then Ministry of Education and Science, now the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness (MINECO), and the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, with the aim of building, equipping and operating a set of marine infrastructures for research in the field of marine sciences and technologies. In 2012 this agreement was updated by agreement between the General State Administration (Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness) and the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands. Finally, on December 29, 2015, the General State Administration, by agreement of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, signed a new agreement to modify the "Collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Education and Science and the Government of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands for the creation of the Consortium for design, construction, equipment and operation of the Canary Islands Ocean Platform". PLOCAN is a Singular Scientific-Technical Infrastructure (ICTS) belonging to the ICTS Map of the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness. PLOCAN is part of the Map of Singular Scientific-Technical Infrastructures (ICTS) that includes facilities, resources, equipment and unique services dedicated to cutting-edge research and technological development of the highest quality, in addition to promoting the transmission, exchange and preservation of knowledge, technology transfer and innovation.
