The Canary Islands Maritime Cluster has participated these days in Madrid in the World ATM (Air Traffic Management) Congress that for the first time has focused its attention on the drone sector at the Expondrónica Pavillion 2021. The event was held this week in the IFEMA facilities.

The Canary Islands Maritime Cluster has been integrated as an active part of this congress within the framework of activities planned in the Interreg-MAC 4p0rt project, of which it is a partner, along with Femepa, an employer also present at the congress. The aim of this European project is to increase the innovation of our ports by submitting proposals to have access to public funds in this type of cutting-edge technologies, as is the case of the MITRA-OSP proposal that has been presented by the hand of partners of the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster to the call for State Ports with an innovative commitment to the use of drones in the port.

According to Elba Bueno, manager of the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster, the objective that has been pursued these days in Madrid has been to establish contacts with national and international companies that can potentially create synergies with entities from the Canary Islands specialized in youth and emerging technological market that offers the industrial use of drones and that have a place in the recently created Aeronautical and Aerospace Cluster of the Canary Islands. From the Canary Islands Maritime Cluster it is considered that being informed about the latest technologies in this sector increases the possibilities to detect opportunities and obtain projects in innovation actions. And the World ATM Congress already anticipates the opportunities, challenges and challenges of this new sector by welcoming companies specialized in the use of drones thanks to the sponsorship of UMILES, the largest consortium of unmanned aerial systems (UAS) companies in Spain.

Expodrónica is the great showcase for unmanned aviation. At this meeting, attention is paid to three main lines such as the solutions offered by companies in the sector, the new challenges of cities in this new era of mobility and, in addition, it exposes the implementation of the new sustainable business models associated with this new mobility such as logistics and passenger transport.

This edition of the World ATM Congress, organized by the European Civil Air Navigation Services Organization (CANSO) and the American Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA), has had 253 exhibitors from 135 countries and more than 250 sessions with the leading experts in the aeronautical sector at a global level.
